Everyone knows that when you look after something, it lasts longer. This is definitely the case with your agricultural or manufacturing businesses sprayers. Some cleaning and management tools used to extend the life of your sprayer can seem complicated, but today we’ll be going over the basics to give your spraying equipment an extended life.

BEFORE ANY INITIAL USE

Obviously the first thing you’ll want to do before using your equipment is to check for any leaks or cracks. While doing this you’ll also want to check the hose connection and fittings. Check the filters by unscrewing everything and cleaning out any particles or dust that may have built up over time. And of course, check the inside of the tank for insects and dust.

Before starting up anything you’ll also want to check the oil level. Always refer to the manufacturer manual if you’re unsure. By checking the oil level you'll save any damage or overheating from occurring.

BEFORE AND AFTER DAILY USE

Before your daily use, or any use, you should visually check all the hose fittings and filters for any blockages, dirt or damage.

After this daily use you should be thoroughly cleaning the inside of the tank with clean water, to clear off any leftover chemicals. You should also be flushing out the hose, nozzles and pump with clean water. This is again to clean out any residing chemicals and ensure that no mixing can occur the next time you use the sprayer.

By following these guidelines, you can decrease the chance of your sprayer unexpectedly breaking down.

MONTHLY

It's a good idea to check your sprayer monthly if it's not used frequently. If you do use this equipment more often it's a good idea to check these things weekly.

After a month of spraying, you may have to change or thoroughly clean the filters on your sprayer. This can be done by removing them and spraying them with a pressure washer. It will help to ensure the quality production and efficiency of the product.
Every month, you’ll also want to check the spray nozzles and replace them if they are not performing as they should be. Using the nozzle manufacturer chart you’ll find out how many litres should be spraying out of the nozzle in 1 minute at a certain pressure. The best way to check your nozzle is performing at its peak capability is to place a jug under the nozzle and run clean water through it for a minute. After the minute is up, compare the amount of water in the jug to the suggested amount on the nozzle manufacturer chart.

BEFORE WINTER

Getting your sprayer ready for winter will largely decrease the occurrence of damage when you use it the following spring. Making sure your sprayer is ready to go the next spraying season will save you a lot of time and money. By completely draining your sprayer, blowing out the plumbing lines, flushing the whole tool with antifreeze and most importantly storing it in the correct place (somewhere dry and clean) you can guarantee your sprayer will be ready to go and in top condition for next spring.

Keeping your sprayer clean and functioning at its best capacity will ultimately mean an extended life expectancy. By following these simple maintenance steps, the number of unexpected breakdowns and broken parts occurring will decrease dramatically.
